HSBC-UK BC Spring Cup 2017 | Tour of the Wolds – Brenton Jones wins for JLT Condor

HSBC-UK British Cycling Spring Cup 2017 Round 2 | Tour of the Wolds

Full steam ahead as JLT Condor’s Brenton Jones clinches the win in the Tour of the Wolds.

The JLT train had the remnants of the twenty-one breakaway group strung-out in the gutter as they returned into Louth and onto the eight lap finishing circuit through the streets and the big crowds that had gathered on this sunny one-hundred-and-sixty-four kilometre race.

An original group of thirty or so riders formed as they headed towards the Caistor loop that the men’s race covered three times. Ten riders broke free on the first loop and JLT Condor’s representation Alex Frame punctured leaving themselves and Raleigh GAC to chase them back as they drew nearer to returning towards Louth.

The nine-man leaders had over a minute on the main group.

As the end of the final loop approached the race came back together and this time a four man group escaped and built-up a 50s lead, Liam Holohan [Metaltek Kuota RT], Matt Holmes [Madison Genesis], Hayden McCormick [ONE Pro Cycling] and Ian Bibby [JLT Condor], the peloton were at 1m 30s as they began their return.

Back in Louth the pace was kept high as they passed the start/ finish line and the laps counted down. Steele Von Hoff had the advantage of leading the riders into the second last corner with three-hundred meters remaining, but didn’t have the strength to deliver the win as Brenton Jones powered out of the final corner with one-hundred meters to go.
