Halfway into the first event of the opening round in the 2013/4 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Netherlands take the lead setting a time of 4:03.033. New Zealand follow but slip into second at this point. Germany call for a re-start, but this seems to disrupt their rhythm and manage tenth over-all. The Russian Team then lead through the first three laps but loose momentum on the final push to qualify in seventh. Spain move into the second position with a 4:03.102, but end up eventually just outside the medal play off.
Denmark set the quickest time so far. But a poor change over in the later stages probably cost them a Gold/ Silver final ride. They will contest the Netherlands for Bronze in the evening finals session.
Second to last qualifiers Great Britain post the first and only sub four minute ride. Owain Doull, Steven Burke, Ed Clancy and Andrew Tennant progress to the Gold/ Silver play-off.
Final qualifiers Australia are the last-off. This young team including current World Champions seat a time of 4:01.491.
