Bibby Bags a Cobbled Classic in the final round of the 2017 HSBC-UK BC Spring Cup, the Lincoln Grand Prix.

Ian Bibby [JLT Condor] crosses the cobbled finish line just ahead of Rory Townsend [BIKE Channel Canyon] and Matt Holmes [Madison Genesis] after a gruelling thirteen ascends of the infamous Michaelgate climb.

An early seven-man break formed through heavy early showers as the one-hundred-and-sixty-five-kilometre race got underway in a newly scheduled Lincoln Grand Prix that closes the 2017 HSBC-UK Spring Cup Series.

Max Steadman [BIKE Channel Canyon], Sam Williams [ONE Pro Cycling], Joe Evans [Madison Genesis], Charlie Tanfield [Brother NRG Driverplan], Steve Lampier [JLT Condor] and two Team WIGGINS members Joey Walker and Rhys Howells.

Several large groups formed in the chase with Ryan Perry [Team Raleigh GAC] and Luke Ryan [Richardsons-Trek RT] stuck in no mans land ten-seconds down behind the leaders, desperately trying to join the party.

Several laps went by before they were absorbed back into the main chase-group as their lead extended over three minutes.
As the pace continued for the leaders, Stedman cracked firstly, then three more fell away leaving Evans, Williams and Lampier at the head of the race.

In the final few laps the leading trio were reeled by the furious pace set by Madison Genesis.

Six more escaped including Lampier once more as he tried to make a solo effort stick.

The final lap saw drama on the finish line as a traffic management van came close to knocking the gantry over. With a little help from by-standers as the riders started their ascend of Michaelgate for the final time, the gantry was lifted and as the van sped around the corner, Bibby appeared just ahead of Townsend, shortly followed by Matt Holmes and Jonny McEvoy of Madison Genesis.

Series leader Enrique Sanz [Team Raleigh GAC] finished ninth on the day but Townsend’s second place put him in top position for the Series Lead ahead of Bibby pushing Sanz into third overall.
