ACT Track League | Women\u2019s International Omnium – Manchester.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Claire Faber \u2013 Andy Schleck Cycles Women Project<\/a> stole the show at the A.C.T. Track League<\/a> Women\u2019s International Omnium Event in the National Cycling Centre, Manchester winning all her races.<\/p>\n

The five-race event put together by Tony Orrell<\/a> along with Ireland Women’s Cycling Commission<\/a> & Soreen<\/a> provided a great opportunity the women to gain valuable experience as they turn their track training sessions into real race scenarios.<\/p>\n

Eight Teams took part with riders from the local Manchester league, Ireland, Scotland and Luxembourg.<\/p>\n

Faber riding only her second track event Captain\u2019d her team on the night to take the overall individual title & the Team title said afterwards \u201cI was seeing how it goes (this weekend). It was some sort of surprise \u2013 I didn\u2019t expect to win all the sprints, all of the races. I want to have fun and travel around\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve just started track this year, I started end of October. I\u2019ve only done 1 race in Germany and Tony asked me to come over \u2013 so I thought \u2013 why not.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI really enjoy track in the winter rather than cyclo-cross \u2013 it\u2019s dry \u2013 it never rains inside\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI arrived Saturday so I could join a Madison training session which I have only done in training with Bob (Her manager) who gave me some tips.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also enjoyed the training sessions yesterday – we did some sort of racing with local riders\u201d she went on to say.<\/p>\n

The next couple of months I will continue to train on the track with focus on the road season with my new team I\u2019ve just joined. At the end of the season I will look and see if I am going to take the track more seriously, then decide if I have potential or not. May-be try some World Cups at some time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\r\nEvent 3: Women\u2019s Omnium \u2013 12 Lap Scratch Race<\/em><\/pre>\n
Rode over a shorter 12 lap race, Faber attacked with 2 laps remaining to win the 1st<\/sup> event in the program, the Scratch Race, with Autumn Collins \u2013 Ireland Juniors 2nd<\/sup> & local rider Maisey Vasic \u2013 ACT England 3rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Event 7: Women\u2019s Omnium \u2013 Elimination Race<\/em><\/pre>\n
Next up the Elimination Race with all 32 riders taking part. First to get caught-out was Georgia Mansfield \u2013 Glasgow Track League being eliminated firstly.<\/p>\n
Another great ride by Vasic secured 2nd<\/sup> place with Jacqui Kinsey \u2013 Sport City Velo finishing 3rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Event 11: Women\u2019s Omnium \u2013 12 Lap Course Des Primes (Tempo)<\/em><\/pre>\n
The 3rd<\/sup> event up a 12 lap Course Des Primes saw Faber\u2019s attentiveness to pick-up the 1st<\/sup> sprint on lap 4 the attacking from the midway point on her own to put a half-lap lead on the bunch collecting the 2nd<\/sup> sprint and again extending to a \u00be lap advantage for the final crossing of the line.<\/p>\n
With the bunch closing down, Collins sprinted to 2nd<\/sup> with Mads Scott \u2013 ACT England taking 3rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Event 15: Women\u2019s Omnium \u2013 Unknown Distance Race<\/em><\/pre>\n
A rather obscure Unknown Distant Event provided an opportunity for the attenuate riders to pick up the next set of points. The race had no sooner started and the bell sounded for the final lap, with around only a half-dozen laps complete. For those at the rear of the Peloton, a 250 meter sprint would prove to bigger challenge to cross the line towards to front end and Faber once more finished first, just ahead of Emma Jeffers \u2013 Sport City Velo and Nicola Greenwood \u2013 Andy Schleck Cycles Women Project 3rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

ACT Track League | International Women’s Omnium – Points Race Start<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Event 19: Women\u2019s Omnium \u2013 40 Lap Points Race<\/em><\/pre>\n
The final event, a more usual 40 lap Points Race was the longest event on the evening with 5,4,3,2,1 points every 10 laps \u2013 doubled for the finish-line.<\/p>\n
Faber once again took maximum points to extend her lead overall.<\/p>\n
The bunch rode the first part all together with Vasic chancing her luck towards the 30 to-go marker, Faber caught her for 5 points. Faber led at the 20 to-go marker with Vasic close behind. The 10 to-go marker saw Faber lead the bunch across the line once more before drifting back along the bunch. As the race wound to its conclusion, Faber crossed the line at the front with a big push from team-mate Greenwood to cross the line 2nd <\/sup>, and 3rd<\/sup> place overall. Susie Mitchel \u2013 Sundrive Ireland crossed 3rd<\/sup> with Kinsey 4th<\/sup> & Jeffers 5th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n
A couple of points gained by Mirium Jessett \u2013 Glasgow Track League in the final race & steady performance throughout competition were enough to secure 2nd<\/sup> overall on the night.<\/p>\n
Jessett said on Social Media later after her first race of the year \u201cI\u2019m really pleased with how it went considering that I am recovering from a virus (coughing my guts up). It was fantastic to see such a large field of women competing at the first round of the Manchester ACT Track League\u201d. Thanking Tony for the opportunity to race as she prepares for the Individual Pursuit title back in Manchester at the end of January for the National Track Championships.<\/p>\n
