HSBC-UK BC Women\u2019s Roads Series Round 3, Women\u2019s Lincoln Grand Prix 2017<\/pre>\n
Barnes stamps her authority for a second successive year to win the Women\u2019s Lincoln Grand Prix 2017.<\/p>\n
Going from the bottom with a lap to go, Barnes explained \u201cIt came back together on the climb which was quite good timing with a lap to go. It meant no one could really counter it properly.<\/p>\n
So I led out on the climb on a lap to go and tested my legs and see how everyone else was going \u2013 and I opened up a gap. So I knew on the climb if I went into it first, I knew I\u2019d be able to win it.<\/p>\n

It was a case of following the moves on the last lap. There was a lot of attacks, so I was having to jump on everything, but I sort of kept it on the left of the road so I could look right and be on moves before they really went \u2013 which saved me a lot on energy.<\/p>\n
I led out quite a long way out basically, from where it started going up. Yeh! My legs were screaming but I knew I was in the lead. I looked back a couple of times and had a pretty big gap so I knew I was safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier on in the day after a slight delay to clear the course 129 riders started round 3 of the Women\u2019s Road Series, Eight laps of the same course that the men use covering 101 kilometres.<\/p>\n
A crash soon after the official flag came down splintered the peloton before Burton Village.<\/p>\n

A group of three riders broke free by the second lap with Rebecca Durrell and Annasley Park [Drops Pro Cycling] and Amy Hill [Cycle OnForm] gaining almost a minute.<\/p>\n

As the race reached the mid-way point, a strong Durrell continued her lead alone as both of the other girls were absorbed back into the peloton.<\/p>\n

Durrell continued her lead going into the penultimate lap and her time yoyoed back-and-forth as attacks formed off the front of a reduced peloton, her lead reduced to 20s.<\/p>\n

Durrell was finally caught on the final climb of Michaelgate with 8 kilometres remaining. Drops taking control with Alice Barnes testing her legs as she did the previous year and they felt fine she said afterwards.<\/p>\n
