National Madison Championships 2011\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\r\nAuthor: Chris Maher, Pictures courtesy of Chris Maher | Photography<\/div>\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2011 Madison Championships<\/span><\/pre>\n<p>Running ahead of the Revolution Season Finale, The British Cycling National Madison Championships once again took place at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester. 50Kms or 200 laps of the Velodrome boards saw Team Sky &amp; Team GB pairing of Peter Kennaugh &amp; Luke Rowe win the Gold Medal. Thirteen teams of two took the start line, in a fast paced event, which took just short of an hour to play out.<\/p>\n<p>Bagging the first set of points after 20 laps, Rapha Condor Sharpe\u2019s new recruits Ed Clancy &amp; Andrew Tennant took the lead and five points with Pete Kennaugh &amp; Luke Rowe in second place collecting three points. Sam Lowe &amp; Josh Papworth collected two points with Owain Doull &amp; Dan McLay the final point in this first, of 10 sprints. From then on with only a minor hiccup, Clancy &amp; Tennant looked like taking the Title with 23 points, 9 points ahead of Kennaugh &amp; Lowe. Ed Clancy showed time &amp; time again his world beating skills having gained strength &amp; experience in the recent UCI WorldCup Omnium rounds prior to this Championship, &amp; looked firm favorite to win. But Manx Man Kennaugh &amp; Luke Rowe had other ideas.<\/p>\n<p>30 minuets into the race, &amp; the half way point. The race seemed to splinter into several sections. Teams were lapped because of Clancy\u2019s &amp; Tennant\u2019s relentless onslaught, but it became evident, that the duo had run out of steam. Taking advantage of the situation, Kennaugh &amp; Lowe Huffed &amp; Puffed &amp; gained a lap on Clancy &amp; Tennant. Following suit, were Tom Murray &amp; Alex Dowsett with Jon Mould &amp; Tom Moses. Now all three teams were one lap up &amp; Clancy &amp; Tennant had it all to play for, but now seemed out of contention. Unable to regain a lap, Clancy &amp; Tennant missed out on a medal opportunity.
