Podium or Grid Line Girls\u2026 The British Super Bike Championship wouldn\u2019t be the same with out the glitz and glamour from these professional models. Nor would many other sports, motorized or not. We take them for granted, as they\u00a0hand out information, or promotional freebies, or gather data for big businesses.<\/p>\n

Laura Gurney – Circuit Run Around Oulton Park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Dressed with corporate slogans & designs, they distract us from the dangers of high octane, high speed action, as the motorbike riders compete for the fastest times and the points that go towards the British Superbikes Championship. The girls are always happy chat and pose for photographs, with the bikes, with the riders or with you, for you to share with your friends. So come on then! Let\u2019s show some support.<\/p>\n
The Girl<\/span><\/p>\n
One such girl is Laura Gurney. In her early twenties, she has been around the British Super Bike scene for over five years. She has worked with many of the top brands associated with the sport of British Super Bikes including MCE Insurance & HM Plant.<\/p>\n
Laura who currently works for the Rapid Solicitor\u2019s Bathams Ducati Team though, had a big scare last year. Facing some tough times, she went through quite a few medical tests with\u00a0a possibility looming, of having cervical cancer. Having watched the TV\u00a0a couple of\u00a0years ago and witnessing the death of high celebrity profile in such short amount of time. Laura became very concerned over her own health. This was an agonising, and stressful time for her, whilst waiting for each prognosis, and then the results. Although the signs are good, Laura still has one more test to complete, then the wait, and hopefully the all clear.<\/p>\n
But whilst undergoing all these tests, she has looked into the research on cervical cancer, and has decided to raise awareness, and help fund for more research.<\/p>\n

The Run<\/p>\n

To help raise awareness, Laura is currently running a circuit, at every round of the 2011 British Super Bike Championships. You can catch her the night before race day, after all the qualifying has finished, running amongst the masses that walk, run or cycle the circuit before dusk. She will also running in her local Tesco Race For Life<\/a> 5Km event in July, and would appreciate any sponsorship for both events.<\/p>\n

The Support<\/span><\/p>\n
Donations can be made online at Just Giving<\/a>. This makes things easier for her to collect, and we can all watch her total grow along the way. You can also leave some words of encouragement and support there as well. But remember also, the next time you see her at the Super Bikes, smiling, and acting normal. Be sure to let her know how much you appreciate the time & effort that she has put into raising awareness for this very real\u00a0and too common, cancer.<\/p>\n
