- Revolution 8
Revolution 32 - January 15th:
|
|
Revolution 31 - December 11th: The Third Round in Season 8 of the Revolution Series switched back to the Elite Sprinters, but another strong field of Endurance riders proved a popular mix at Revolution 31.
Prior to the Revolution starting at the Velodrome had been a day of competition, for the Sprint School. The DHL Sprint School is a feeder of talent, for Juniors coming into Racing. This gave an opportunity for the School to showcase, And the Finals were ran just prior to the Revolution.
Getting the Revolution underway was the Elite Team Elimination. The 3 men teams battled over the course with whoever pasted the chosen lap last, being eliminated, along with fellow team members. The winning combination of Captain Franco Marvulli, Andrew Fenn & Jon Mould brought the first top result for Le Col, who as the night drew on, proved difficult to beat.
Revolution 200m TT
- David Daniell Motorpoint Marshalls Pasta 10.338
- Roy Van Den Berg Maxgear Racing 10.394
- Teun Mulder Le Col 10.428
- Ross Edgar Team Sky 10.467
- Pete Mitchell Manchester City Council 10.550
- Philip Hindes Revolution All-Stars 10.846
- Lewis Oliva CHEP UK 10.864
- Hugo Haak Rapha Condor Sharp 10.921
The Australian Pursuit was billed as one of the highlights of the evening. This being the first time this style of race had been used at a Revolution. The idea was one team member from each of the eight teams, are placed at equal distances, from the nearest competitor around the 250m track. Starting the race over a 12 lap distance, each competitor would continue to the end or until being caught by the person behind. If caught, then the rider would be removed from the track till only two were left complete the distance. First out was Claudio Imhof from MCC followed by Eric Rowsell from Revolution All-Stars… Bearing in mind that the actual finish line was the starting point for each competitor, this would make the last couple of laps a little difficult to determine. But is soon became a two horse race between Leif Lampater & Dean Downing. The crowd got behind the two hopefuls & this provided good entertainment for everyone alike. It was Maxgear Racing’s Leif Lampater that won the race, Dean Downing (Rapha Condor Sharp) second & Kit Karzan (Motorpoint Marshalls Pasta)third.
In a build up to the GB Vs Holland finale, it was a chance for the Sprinters to get back on the track. 8 laps in total with 5 behind the Derny saw Holland’s Van Den Berg go for a long one. But it was countryman Teun Mulder that took the win with Ross Edgar second & David Daniell third.
Maxgear Racing retain their Championship position, but Le Col have now moved into 2nd after winning the evenings competition by one hundred points, amassing 914 in total. Revolution 32 is on 15th January.

Revolution 30 - November 20th: The Second Round in Season 8 of the Revolution Series switched focus to the Endurance athletes. With the added flavour of Top Continental Guests, this round was fast & furious, and crammed full of current & ex World Champions… Taking on the might of these World Champions are current Championship leaders Team Sky, who clocked maximum points in Round One with the help of Chris Hoy’s Power. Bolstering up the Team this time though, has brought, Sky Pro Cycling’s Endurance men back to the Track, lead by Geraint Thomas, with Ben Swift & Pete Kennaugh.
Adding staying power to the other Teams are 2009 Madison World Champions Alex Rasmussen (CHEP UK) & Michael Morkov (Revolution All-Stars). 2007 Madison World Champion Franco Marvulli (Le Col) will ride against our own Junior World Madison Champions, Simon & Adam Yates (Maxgear Racing) helped out by Multi Madison World Cup Winner Leif Lampater. Riding for Motorpoint is Andreas Muller, and for Manchester City Council, Sebastian Donadio & Claudio Imhof.
It was also the night for the young Sprinters to shine with Maxgear Racing’s Matt Rotherham, who won the Revolution Sprint & Keirin Events. Matt managed to pip Round One Champion Sam Lowe (Team Sky)too the top of the Leader board & will wear the DHL Future Boys Jersey in Round 3.
Future Girls Leader Emily Kay (Motorpoint) proved too hard to defeat, with 2 wins in the Revolution Elimination & Scratch Races, she will retain her Leaders Jersey & is now 30 Points clear of nearest rival, Lucy Garner (Team Sky).
The main Endurance Events of the evening got off with Devil/ Elimination Race. This was a good start by Team Sky with Ben Swift winning. It also saw Pete Kennaugh crash halfway through & this weakened the Team throughout the evening when they failed to gain vital points by not finishing some of the later Events. Another surprise was the early exit of several Continental Guests. But this soon changed once they got into the swing of the Revolution. A packed Velodrome saw us entertained by Argentinean songster Sebastian Donadio, & he went on to win the Scratch Race. Le Col’s combination of Andy Fenn & Franco Marvulli saw the fastest Revolution Madison of the evening. Then when joined by Jon Mould for the 3 Man Team Madison, this combination seemed invincible.
Team Maxgear Racing moved to the top of the Leader Board. Revolution 31 is on 11th December. More Results on the (Blog)

Revolution 29 - October 23rd: Manchester’s National Track Cycle Centre once again hosted Face Partnerships, Cycling Revolution. Another packed house awaited in anticipation for the return of the Big Yin, Sir Chris Hoy. And without disappointment he was back performing at his best, after a poor British National Track Championships mainly due to illness. Team Sky’s Chris Hoy, once again, thrilled the Public in the opening qualifying session of the Revolution Sprint. Leaving behind the likes of Crampton & Edgar, Chris also managed to see off the current British Sprint Champion, Jason Kenny. Also mixing it with the best, with a respectable time of 10.263 and coming in 2nd fastest was the North East’s David Daniell. The 20 year old from Middlesbrough showed that he has the potential to one day become, the UK number one!.
The Motor Paced 6Km Scratch Race got the Event properly underway. One for the Endurance riders, This Special Race was one final chance for multi Olympic Champion & World Champion, Chris Newton, to take to the boards. Taking part in this formal last Track Race, Chris who recently won the British Premier Calendar Road Race Championship, ended his career on a high. Having participated in every Revolution Event barring one, it was a last chance to see him ride around the Worlds best Velodrome, here in Manchester. As the race progressed, and the Moped left the track with 6 laps remaining, it was the Motorpoint Marshalls Pasta boys & Rapha Condor Sharp boys that shaped the Race. As the Race intensified it was Chris Newton that took the honours, to a standing ovation from the crowd and he circled several times accepting the applause of an appreciative audience. The top official points went to Motorpoint Marshalls Pasta’s Steven Burke.
It was also Motorpoint Marshalls Pasta’s Ed Clancy & Emily Kay that rode the strongest throughout the night. Clancy won the Points & the Scratch Race, whilst Kay won the Points & the 6 Lap Dash to take the first Girls Leaders Jersey into Round 2. With Hoy’s 2 wins in the Sprint & the Keirin & Sam Lowes Scratch Race win, Team Sky managed to fend off the rest of the other teams to claim the maximum 10 Championship Points. Lowe also claims the Boys Leaders Jersey. Team Sky collected a massive 691 points across the whole Event to win.
The last race of the night, not part of the Revolution Championship was the Team Sprint. Old rivals England Vs Scotland gave the public one last chance to witness the power of the Sprinter. It was Kenny, Daniell & Crampton for England & Hoy, Edgar & Pritchard for Scotland. This 3-2-1 style race went down to the wire with England winning by a whisker. 45.500s against 45.842.

The Season Finale of the Revolution (28) was a tail of two halves. Bringing together the National Madison Championships (New Champions Luke Rowe & Mark Christian) & the Revolution. This allowed a full days racing at Manchester’s Velodrome. Sprinting was the theme for the last Revolution, with top British Men & Women competing against World Class rivals. With the World Championships only weeks away in Denmark & little seen of both Chris Hoy & Victoria Pendleton how would they fair! A host of German sprinters were invited along with Dutch Cycling Supremo Willy Kanis to keep VP on her toes. Chris Hoy soon established his dominance & put in the only sub 10 second qualifier (9.995). Pendleton went all the way to the final against Kanis. (in my eyes untouchable!). As for the Revolution Championships. Owain Doull lead the DHL future boys all the way. Emily Kay took the top slot for the DHL future girls (round 2) & Team Slicks (Captained by Craig MacLean) emerged victorious! The new format still has capacity crowds. All in all, another great season. Roll on Season 8!

The Revolution (27) got underway with DHL Sprint School Keirin finals. The selection was challenged earlier in the day & won by Luke Boulton. This edition of the series was about the Juniors & DHL Future Stars, with the regular Championship racers & invited younger sprinters from the continent. Both germans, Stephan Boetticher & Christina Konsulke were a force to be reckoned with. DHL leaders Owain Doull & Emily Kay increased their lead. While Team Sky’s Geraint Thomas added staying power to the Rollers. Team Slicks retain their leading position with 28 points.

The star of Revolution (26), was no doubt Bradley Wiggins. Returning to the boards for the first time in over a year, Bradley rode around the track, much to the delight of the crowd.
Bradley, who switched his concentration to the road, with a fantastic 4th place in the 2009 TDF (Tour De France) showed his Track Cycling pedigree with ease!

Ryedale Grand Prix 2010
06 June 2010: The 2010 Premier Calendar Ryedale GP winner, Endura Racing’s Rob Partridge. 112 miles of rain soaked roads around North Yorkshire in 4.27:49 hours. Starting & finishing for the 6th year in Duncombe Park, Helmsley. Based around a double 4 lap circuit, several breaks were formed on the climb out of Hovingham. Moving onto the 2nd circuit at around 52 miles, National RR Champion Kristian House - Rapha Condor Sharp & Rob Sharmen - www basso bikes. co. uk made a joint effort to lead by about a minuet & a half. Struggling on the slippy decent into Oswaldkirk & the flooded back road into Hovingham, the peleton was reduced from 119 rides to 35 or so that completed the course. The race finished with the usual run up into Duncombe Park & was contested by a 3 man sprint. 2nd on the day was Darren Lapthorne - Rapha Condor Sharp & 3rd was Wouter Sybrandy - Sigma Sport Specialized Cycle Racing Team.

Halfords Tour Series 2010.
The Halfords Pro Cycling Tour Series gets under way on the 25th May 2010 in London’s Canary Wharf. A City Centre circuit providing a backdrop for the cyclists, Ten teams of 5 riders from the UK’s top Pro Cycling outfits will battle the course for just over an hour to gather as many points as possible by placing there best 3 out of 5 rides across the line first. The highest points team will then wear the “Orange” easily identifiable jersey for the next of the Nine rounds throughout the Summer months, finishing in Working, on the 24th June. Throughout the hour there is a Sprint contest sponsored by Halfords main bike supplier Boardman Bikes & the Highest points gatherer will be awarded the Sprinters “Yellow” jersey per session.
- The first Sprinters Jersey went to Liam Holoham – Team Raleigh.
- The first race winner went to Tony Gibb – Cycle Premier.
- The Leaders Jerseys went to the Rapha Condor Sharp team
Durham City in the NE of England provided the 2nd venue on the 27th May. Contested around a unusually hilly course. The rides rode each circuit in around 2.5 minutes. With not only a hill to contend, the cyclists had 2 sections of cobbles. One slightly downwards into sharp right hand bend, and the other a very steep section upwards straight after, which meant turning on the gas almost straight after braking into this corner. This proved the most popular point for the public to view & the place to see the cyclists over cook & crash of course.
- The second Sprinters Jersey went to Kristian House – Rapha Condor Sharp
- The second race winner went to Malcolm Elliot – Motorpoint – Marshalls Pasta
- The Leaders Jerseys stayed with the Rapha Condor Sharp team.
