Season 9 of the track cycling Revolution gets underway on Saturday 29th October 2011. Played out over four rounds through the winter period, this popular event has grown in statue and will almost certainly sell out for each of the events.
Eight teams, some from our top Pro-Cycling Teams, will compete for the Championship title in endurance races. Although team members will change throughout the four events, due to commitments elsewhere, they will be three elite riders per team. Running once again alongside the main Championship will be the DHL Future Stars, and we will see some of our finest athletes once again helping and guiding our up and coming juniors, in an exciting, thrilling, and entertaining manor.
The eight team for Season 9 are: Maxgear, Team Sky, Rapha Condor Sharp, CHEP, UK Youth, howies, Cunga Bikes & Rouleur.
Confirmed riders from the elite teams include Russell Downing (Sky Pro Cycling), Ian Stannard (Sky Pro Cycling), Alex Dowsett (Sky Pro Cycling), Magnus Backstedt (UK Youth) & Steven Burke. International rides include regular Leif Lampater and Jens Mouris.
To keep in tradition with the Revolution ideal, they will be guest sprinters competing against the UK’s top sprinters, but this will fall outside the main Championship title fight. To start the season off David Daniell, who narrowly missed out on the Open Keirin National Champions gold medal to Sir Chris Hoy, will compete against France’s Michael d’Almeida. Along side of David will be Revolution veteran Craig MacLean & Junior World Champion John Paul. This will add great entertainment value with some competitive edge to the night as the old enemies clash.
For those who can’t make it to Manchester, or want to re-live the experience, ITV4 will be recording all four events and showing highlights on the following Monday evening. A first for the Revolution Phenomenon.
